Our clients are varied – they operate in numerous sectors, professions and fields – and as such our work is never the same from one day to the next.

Therefore, our team must be ready to provide advice on topics and issues that may encompass several complex areas of tax and finance.

The path less taken: When success means letting go

Sometimes projects don’t complete and that’s OK.

Our Business Advisory Team recently assisted a fast-growing business that was looking to expand their property footprint. There was a strong business case for the project to proceed but significant risks from both the financial commitment and squeezing of working capital.

We assisted with the preparation of forecasts and other financial information to support a lending application and secured additional working capital facilities to support cash flow that was going to be reduced by the capital spend.

We also spent time discussing the risks of the project with the management team and explored the potential future scenarios and mitigating actions.

These conversations led to a reduced offer being made on the property which was ultimately purchased by another business.

Some may see this as a failure, but the process we followed meant that the management team made an evidence and data based decision – not an emotional one – and sometimes that’s our job.
